What to Expect From a Free Commercial-Cleaning Walkthrough

A good cleaning plan starts with understanding your building. Here’s what to bring up about your priorities, floors, schedule and service expectations.

When you’re looking for commercial cleaning, a useful starting point is a conversation inside your building. Two offices can have similar square footage and very different needs. One may welcome customers all day; another may have a quiet reception area and a busy employee breakroom. The cleaning plan should reflect how people actually use the space.

Aquamen Cleaning, LLC offers free, no-obligation walkthroughs. We’re a Mid-South based company, and a walkthrough gives you an opportunity to discuss your facility, explain your priorities and ask questions before agreeing to services. Here’s how to prepare for that conversation.

Start with the problems you want solved

Think about what prompted you to look for cleaning help. Are restrooms receiving complaints? Is dirt collecting near entrances? Do floors look dull even after routine mopping? Are some rooms being missed because their use or access hours have changed?

A short list is enough. Point out your biggest concerns and explain what a satisfactory result would look like. Mention any recurring problems and areas that already meet your expectations. If you have an existing cleaning checklist, bring it along so the discussion can be specific.

Look at the different areas of your building

During the walkthrough, discuss the spaces that would be included: offices, reception areas, restrooms, breakrooms, hallways and entrances. Identify rooms that should be excluded or need special permission to enter.

For ordinary community facilities, the CDC recommends regular attention to frequently touched surfaces and cleaning other surfaces when visibly dirty. That makes it useful to identify busy counters, door handles and shared areas while discussing your scope. Healthcare settings require their own applicable practices; general office guidance should not be treated as a medical-office protocol. Read the CDC’s facility-cleaning guidance.

Give floors and carpets their own conversation

Different surfaces need different care. Be ready to identify the flooring if you know it, describe previous work and point out wear, stains or finish concerns. Let the team know whether you’re discussing ongoing maintenance, a one-time project, or both.

Ask what work would be included in recurring janitorial service and what would need a separate floor-care plan. Stripping and waxing should be discussed in relation to the actual floor and its condition. Photos can help explain a concern, but seeing the surface in person adds useful context.

Explain your schedule and access requirements

Share the hours when employees, visitors or customers are present, along with any periods when cleaning would interrupt operations. Explain how access is arranged, which areas are restricted and who should receive questions or report a concern.

Discuss supplies and storage as well. Establish who is responsible for items such as paper products, soap and liners, and whether there is an appropriate place to store cleaning equipment. These details help prevent assumptions about what is included.

Use clear words for the requested work

Cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting describe different activities. EPA explains that cleaning removes dirt and organic matter, while sanitizing and disinfecting products have different purposes and requirements. Where those services are requested, discuss the surfaces, intended use and applicable product directions. See EPA’s explanation.

Before making a decision, ask for clarity about tasks, frequency, exclusions and how changes will be handled. A walkthrough is also a good time to ask what information is still needed and what the next step will be. There’s no need to guess about timing or the details of a proposal.
